Scenes From A Simple Life
My name is Gabriel Lopez, I was born in Mexico, in the city of Guadalajara, which is in the state of Jalisco. When I was 8 years old we moved to San Pedro Tlaquepaque. There I was exposed to different manifestations of art from watching the craftsmen in this small town. At 16 years of age I began taking black and white photographs of the people of Mexico and their simple way of living. After 6 years I started painting and then till now, I find myself capturing the sense of human nature, related mostly to humble and noble people living in small towns. In my experience I see many people in our society suffering from a spiritual illness called "indifference". We live a comfortable lifestyle and choose to ignore anything that is going to challenge the way we lead our lives. We ignore the fact that only by opening our hearts and our minds can we truly experience other cultures that lead simple lives, more in tune with nature . By loving and understanding other cultures we will enrich our own lives and become better people. I would like to invite you to observe my photographs and paintings with an open heart and an open mind. See them, contemplate them, and let them tell you their own stories
